Facing enhances the aesthetic and protective characteristics of building materials, and can also be used for standard repairs of residential buildings. Today it presents the most interesting solutions for decorating the walls of a house in the country.

There are a lot of options for country houses. Expensive cottages in specially built villages, country villas on the outskirts of a forest or a river bank, small houses in six-hundred cooperative territories, as well as other residential buildings of a summer type, located in villages outside the city limits. Many of them look very expensive and elegant, but we are used to starting from the fact that the budget is limited. So, today we will consider those options that will be far from hiring specialized teams and turnkey cladding. It's about how to quickly and inexpensively make exterior decoration of a country house inexpensive and even home-made materials.

Facing facades with siding, composite materials, brick or stone can cost a pretty penny. Very often, such work even exceeds the cost of the old building. But this is not a reason to live in a house that every year comes into an increasingly unsuitable condition and has a not very pretty appearance. We will find a way to restore the dwelling outside and not invest a lot of money into it!

What materials to choose

We decided to dwell on inexpensive decorative materials - plaster and adhesive mixtures, with the help of which we will carry out protective decoration and decoration of facades. For some, this task may seem overwhelming or even ridiculous, but according to preliminary calculations, we should get a rather interesting building with qualitative characteristics, and most importantly, spend only 20-30% of the amount that usually goes on facing such buildings .

Who will produce the finish

We suggest not hiring craftsmen with high fees, but try to do everything yourself. Looking back on past experience, where we visited garages, carports, gazebos and other buildings, as well as many tasks on facing facades and even external insulation of the walls of a country house, we think we can do it.

Naturally, initially a lot of things may not work out, but it’s better to practice on the back wall of a garage or a shed, to pour out a couple of bags of building mixtures and spend a day or two on preparation, rather than give up a huge amount of money for work that they themselves can do. Imagine just that you immediately save up to half the costs that could go to pay for labor, and also get invaluable experience!

What is necessary to start work

We will use the materials that are available in almost every small construction store, and even on the shelves of hypermarkets they will definitely be found. Also, the tool is an absolute standard, maybe something will have to be purchased.

Materials for wall decoration

We will perform stone or brick finishes, but we can also make excellent decor with stucco, which we prepare ourselves. What is needed for this? Only starting plaster and tile adhesive, primer and special sanitary impregnations, water to dilute the solution, as well as protective facade paint or weather-resistant varnish.

Tools for work

Here you can get by with a simple set that almost everyone has in the garage, but if you want to ease your task, be sure to take care of more professional equipment. A grinder, a puncher, a screwdriver - all this can come in handy, but we will definitely remember an additional tool in the process. Most likely, spatulas, a small pickaxe, a drill with a nozzle for mixing mortar, molding rollers and the like will go into the course. But the most important thing is the forms for decoration under a stone or brick.

In the course of reading the article, write down all the necessary consumables as well. These are trifles, but they are extremely important for convenient work and a high-quality result.

Brick wall finish

First of all, we want to tell you how to decorate a brick wall. It is clear that it can already be brick, but updating it with facing material can be very expensive. Then we just work on technology and renew the beautiful appearance of the building. In addition, always decorate a flat wall in this way, make, for example, a block house much prettier, or try to update the old facade.

Preparing the walls of the house for cladding

We immediately warn that the clay old house or simply plastered in this way cannot be finished, since at the end of the work we get a thick layer of decorative finish that such a surface simply can’t hold. But if the house is brick or block, there is no problem (by the way, such cladding is also possible on the walls of the garage, barn, summer kitchen).

By and large, this is the same artificial stone that we subsequently glue on the walls, only now we connect two processes at once to save a little time.

So, initially we prepare the walls for future work. It is necessary to remove all crumbling parts and old finishing material from their surface. Pickaxes, hammers, chisels, spatulas and special scrapers are well suited for this. But just do not overdo it so as not to damage the walls.

After preparatory work on all the facades, you need to carefully cover them with a broom and a soft brush so that there is no dust and pieces of the old finish on the surface. By the way, you may also need to repair and finish the basement.

Installation grid installation

A mounting grid is required to hold the stucco layer on the wall surface. If you simply sprinkle even the best quality solution on a strictly vertical surface, it may move away or even fall off after a few minutes. And we need to make a layer 1-2 cm thick, and sometimes increase it to 3-4 cm, depending on the technology of work and the expected result.

So, we take a pneumatic gun, if any, and nail the metal mounting grid on the wall plugs on the entire wall. If not, a hammer or drill, and then stuffing the mesh on the same dowels.

The installed mesh must be properly fixed so as not to fall along with a thick layer of plaster, pulling even those layers where the mesh is nailed tight. Do not forget to align the corners with a grid. Constantly work with the level.

Primer for wall facing

Directly through the grid, a high-quality primer is applied over the entire surface, which will provide the highest quality adhesion of the material to the substrate. It is possible to apply a primer in different ways, but it is better to work with a spray gun through the mesh. This is quite convenient and fast, especially since the entire wall, as well as the mesh, will be treated with a solution.

Before starting work, it is advisable to drop two layers of primer, and this should be done with certain intervals, for example, the first layer of deep soil can be sprayed onto the wall early in the morning, the second - after it dries, approximately in the evening. But work can only begin by the next evening. If, however, to work correctly at all, then adhere to the instructions of the manufacturer of the material you are acquiring.

We prepare a solution for finishing

It is necessary to use ready-made mixtures, which can simply be diluted with water, following the manufacturer's instructions, and prepare them strictly in the amount that you are going to work out over a period of time. For our work, we chose a slightly different recipe and simply mixed the starting plaster with adhesive mortar for ceramic finish, about 40% to 60%, to increase the quality. This is a little more expensive than using cement mortar, but believe me, it's worth it!

Use ready-made mixes or cook them yourself depending on requirements, but always choose high-quality manufacturers - Ceresit, Polimin, Knauf, Artisan, BAUMIX, etc.

Stone or brick finish

So, knead the solution or simply dilute the ready-made according to the instructions and proceed to throwing onto the wall through the grid. The solution should be pasty. A creamy consistency is often recommended, and this is even correct for a better filling, but you should not make the mixture very liquid so that it does not run down the walls.

The solution is poured with a trowel, with a serious effort, so that once it hits the wall, it adheres to it as much as possible and even penetrates into the pores and cracks.

Many recommend working in strips or parts, from bottom to top, so that the solution does not slide down the wall, but more often masters begin to work in small squares, from the top corner!

For such work, special spray machines are also used, but this is very expensive equipment, and even renting it is unprofitable.

When you poured a solution onto a certain part of the wall and blocked not only the grid, but also created a layer of 0.5-1 cm, you need to take a pre-acquired shape under a stone or brick, and just press it on the layer of material that is on top of the grid. The mold must be moistened with clean water so that the solution does not stick to it.

After holding the form for several seconds, you can carefully remove it and make a drawing further, pressing the next zone. At the same time, you need to correct the seams on the layer of decorative finish, remove excess, eliminate defects.

If a break is planned in the work, we do not recommend working with the form over the entire square of the layer sketched in advance. A strip of about 10 cm should be left on each side, where work will continue after. This is necessary so that you can evenly apply the picture. At the end of the break or the next day, you again spray a layer of the finishing mixture through the net, combine it with the finished one, pour a little solution on the previously left strip and continue working on the technology. It is also worth remembering that it is advisable to tamp the mixture before setting the form, you can do this even with your hands.

Subsequent processing of facades

At the end of the work, you will need to qualitatively protect the wall from atmospheric phenomena, as well as bring in the form that was planned in advance. This can be coated with special protective compounds or treated with special varnish or paint for outdoor use. Remember, the better you protect the finish layer, the longer the facades will not require another repair.

Decorating a country house with decorative plaster

By and large, we have already considered many processes from this type of work earlier, for example, surface preparation, mesh packing, primer and so on. Below we consider other subtleties of the process.

Aligning the wall for decorative trim

First of all, we advise you to think about the material of the finish, because it will depend on it the labor costs, financial costs and time of the work.

You can choose decorative bark beetle plaster, the usual finish of a fur coat for the walls of the house, plaster with aggregates of different fractions, leveling for painting and so on.

After choosing the material for ease of use, cost and, of course, external indicators, we move on to the main process at the moment - leveling the wall.

Previously, this was not so necessary, since a form was applied to the composition, which itself corrected the layer thickness and relief. On such a surface, minimal differences are not as noticeable as on a wall, say, with a bark beetle finish.

Alignment is desirable for beacons, it is much simpler, and faster. Lighthouses of 10 mm, for example, are installed in increments of 1.6-1.8 meters, so that a rule of 2 meters in length walks well on them. This way you can achieve a very good result.

Lighthouses are installed using a level and a plumb line or, best of all, using a laser level, which will help to dwell on all levels and give you information in advance where which indents and layers of plaster will be needed.

In this case, it is already possible to work with a more liquid solution, since we do not need molding immediately after laying it.

Wall decor of a country house

Now it remains to decide what exactly we will do with the finished, even wall. By the way, we want to immediately point out that such a finish is quite real even after warming the country house with polystyrene!

  • We suggest using a thin layer of plaster with decorative admixtures. For example, the same bark beetle in which special solid inclusions help to draw incredible patterns.
  • You can also use ready-made structural plasters for facades, which form a pattern due to the granules in the composition.
  • An interesting effect can be achieved with finished textured plasters, which are applied in a variety of ways, from stretching to spraying with special machines.
  • But it’s even more interesting to work with different rollers. They can be velor, fabric, plastic, with a specific pattern or pattern, which is manifested throughout the worked out area by simple movements of the roller in the desired direction and light pressure.

Whatever method of decorative decoration you choose, remember that this process occurs according to strict technology. It requires antiseptics to prevent fungus, it is important to work in dry and warm weather for better setting, priming each new layer for good adhesion, and also the implementation of many other rules. The final stage of any such process is painting or finishing protective finish, which should not be forgotten in any case!

These are really interesting solutions for decorating the walls of a country house, as well as the exterior surfaces of other buildings. But before you start, ask yourself if you are ready for such processes, and if you can finish the job ... if it is too much for you, consider other interesting options.
